VersionBackup Master is an advanced file backup system.
|
Compared to other backup programs, it has a considerably increased functionality. The backups are not only saved in the network, as USB-Backups or FTP-Backups. The best thing about it, is that the copies of different days are saved in separate data channels. Selecting not only the file path and file name but also the date, the separate file versions can be found and recovered very easily. This is valid even if the backups have been archived on a CD, on a DVD or as online archive in the Internet.
|
Other backup software is specialized only for the creation of backup copies. Functions to manage the existing backup stock usually are missing. The backup files will be overwritten each time, when a new backup version of a certain file is created. Most backup programs provide only the last copied backup for recovery. Older backup versions are no more available.
|
VersionBackup has been developed to avoid this disadvantage. With VersionBackup, each backup will continue existing as long as needed. The different issues of any file will be managed separately.

Clearly arranged dialog pages let you configure VersionBackup to make it work for you exactly to your requirements.
Many System Administrators, taking care about security and availability of their backups, prefer to create a Full Backup each day. This is sensible if they are using common backup software, which does not support to combine the results of different backup runs. But a Full Backup each day waists a lot of storage space. If you use VersionBackup, you are able to use a storage structure which is more sophisticated than daily Full Backups. Nevertheless, you will keep the overview . VersionBackup is able to reconstruct each of the daily stored intermediate states of your files, even if they have to be collected from different Incremental Backups. Using Incremental Backups will reduce your storage space requirements significantly. Only occasionally, a Full Backup should be inserted (approx. all 20 to 120 days). Even this is done automatically according to your configuration. (See also: Backup Procedures provided by VersionBackup)

If you want to recover a special version of the files, you will be assisted by VersionBackup’s special Backup-Browser. It lets select you not only the file path and file name, but also the calendar date of the version, which you like to have. This way, you get a direct and clearly arranged access to the development course on your computer.
|
The Backup-Browser shows you in detail, which versions are available from which files. To recover one file or maybe several directories, you can select the desired date from the list. It does not matter, whether this version has been stored in a Full Backup or an Incremental Backup. VersionBackup will get the proper file versions from the Backup Archive and will copy it to the desired location.
The Backup-Browser shows you the directory- and file structure, independently from the present state. You see an outline of the data from the last weeks or months or another calendar interval in the past, according to your settings. Even deleted directories or files will remain visible. And if you need something from the past, the “Recover” button will restore it.
The daily backup creation runs automatically without any user assistance. To make this possible, the primary backups will be stored on a permanently accessible disk. This might be a hard disk on your computer. But of course, it is better to use a separate storage media, maybe a drive on any other computer in the network or on a NAS. It is also possible storing the data as Online Backups on any FTP server in the Internet (FTP-Backups). One of the best possibilities is storing the backups as USB-Backups. If you use an USB hard drive or a USB stick as media for the primary backups, then you can plug it off and lock it at a secure place. VersionBackup can be configured to start the creation of the USB-Backups automatically when the USB drive is plugged in again.
|
Furthermore, VersionBackup assists you archiving the primary backups on an external archive media. For instance, you can duplicate your data to a CD ROM or a DVD every two weeks or send them to the Inernet. This increases security, because the data then will be stored on different media. VersionBackup can be configured to delete the backups on the primary disk, as soon as they have been externally archived. If you use High Quality Single Write CDs or DVDs, you will get a Backup Archive, keeping everything for a long time.
It is important, that VersionBackup supports even the Recovery from any external media. Even their content will be displayed in the Backup-Browser together with the primary backups. The recovery function will use the external media or the FTP server as well as the primary disk.
